I am looking at getting a tuner to add to my system. There are a lot of them out there and was wondering if anyone had a suggestion on what I should get. Something that can be had for around $100 or less would be great.
There are lots of tuners in that range, and I used an inexpensive tuner for years. Ok, decades. Finally I got a higher end tuner for about twice that. The difference is quite amazing. Go to fmtunerinfo.com and read. You can also join their group on Yahoo. Your location will probably have a lot to do with the best tuner choice.
Hi,
In the Spring, I picked up a pristine Sansui TU-717 for $255 from eBay. Worth even more because it is flawless, to me any way. I plan to mod it and bring it into the increadible category!
Conrad is right, research at fmtunerinfo.com and spend a little more and really enjoy FM again! Also invest in a real (quality) FM antenna and RG6 (low loss 75 0hms) cable!
You won't regret purchasing one of these. Mine replaced a Creek T40 ($500) and that was supposed to be the bomb in the early 90s. The TU-717 is from the late 70s and blows the Creek away!
Want to buy a Creek T40?
Regards//Keith

At this point in time, I would only look at HD (hybrid digital) tuners. Their analog AM & FM tuners are the equal of most conventional tuners plus you get HD.
