hi,
As per usual, in need of some suggestions from some of the more experienced folk here.
I was wondering what would be the candidate for the lowest noise pentode?
Mullard used to hold up the EF86 as such a device. And indeed it's good by pentode standards, but a 6BR7 is even quieter.
Anyone got any suggestions that could top that (a 6BR7)?
Given the calibre of my tube knowledge, I'm sure there's another one out there that must be lower still.

How about the Mullard EF37A? Like a super premium 6J7 as I understand it. Quad used them as input stages in their amps long ago.
Take a look at 6BS7, in particular, look at the last two pages of the Brimar data sheet (available on Frank's site).
BTW The regulated heater supply is frighteningly bad!
