i have 3 project amps waiting for me in california to bring back to mexico and to use in some free classes i give to my music students. i know just enough to not fry myself and to diagnose and make basic tube amp repairs, not by the educated method but usually by testing till i find something bad.
the amps i have are a bell sound 3710a, a stromberg carlson 34, and a heathkit ea3.
i try to do most everything for my classes to get the most for the least money without compromising function and quality. i pay for 90% of everything as a pay it forward for surviving growing up in detroit in the 50's and 60's when someone helped get me pointed in the right direction away from the zip guns and switch blades that were reality for us then.
if anyone has suggestions on converting these into little practice/gig amps, they will make some good projects and make someone happy, me included. judging from the simple circuits they remind me allot of the early fenders and marshalls, but i really don't know enough to make accurate judgements or comparisons. the heathkit ea3 is allot like my marshall 18 in many ways. the bell sound 3710 i hope to fix for a harmonica amp and the others for guitar amps.
