Successful LED/PSONE projector.

Hope you guys find this interesting. Biggest disappointment is the resolution of the PS-ONE LCD. I'd love a higher res LCD but must remain at 5" to retain the contrast/cooling benefits of the panel immersed in the liquid portion of lens. Lens is from a CRT projector.

I designed the backing to be swapable from LED and common light sources. As yet, have found no need. These LED's make massive light also a big plus in my opinion is the total lack of any fan. Runs 100% silent.

Let me know what you think!

(I will post more pictures after my thread is approved by a moderator. This is my first post as well, woohoo!)

Thats it for now

I know I should include a few pics of the thing in action but I need to locate where they went. But will do soon.

I sandblasted and then anodized my parts as well then dyed them. The significantly strengthens the parts. Not such a critical feature for this project. But also allows you to dye the aluminium metal itself making it very scratch and dent resistant. The color becomes part of the aluminium oxide layer coating the aluminium. Far better than paint or powder coating when speaking strictly of aluminium.

PSONE LCD

They are not all built the same thats for sure.

I own two flavors of the PSONE LCD attatchment.

One built by Sony themselves and one pictured in some of the other PSONE projects posted here.

I find that the color, contrast, quality and resolution to be crisper and more appealing than the non-Sony make.

The unfortunate downside is that the Sony ribbon cable is very delicate and agonizingly short to work with. But it can be done if you are careful.

First off- Welcome to the forum! Great to see more Canadians here!!!! (where you from in Canada?)

Second - GREAT job! I too want result pictures as soon as possible. I think the only way leds are possible in this project is due to the very light efficient crt projector lens.
Im impressed!😀

awesome

that, sir, is awesome.

I've got a 2.5" LCD with 480 x 234 "real" resolution that I'm trying to incorporate into a small form-factor, small (~50") screen project, and if I could build something akin to yours, that'd be absolutely perfect.

Would love to see pics of the final projected image, as well as hear about the LEDs and CRT projection lens that you're using...

Wow thanks guys.

Yes the Lens is adjustable and focusable for different throw distances etc.

I use 21 of these LED's the called luxeon Star Batwing's they incorporate their own collimator lens within the LED itself making for a very nice and compact solution. They are too bright to look directly at and infact it is not recommended by the manufactoror that you do so at all.

I was lucky enough that a local electronics shop carries them instock. Also keep an eye on these guys as I have an inside source that claims they will soon release a 5 watt per single white LED solution. Thats scarey bright for so little power and size.

One question what is the best way to show a projected image? Being new to these forums I am unsure if we have a standardized technique so we are all comparing apples to apples or not. If not perhaps we should have one. Fill me in please and I'll send some pics of that up next.

They are already out and you can buy them, though they are about $50 each. The colimator ones are the ones to go for. Unfortunatley they dont have that lens adaptable for the 5w led yet but as an alternative its very easy to make your own collimator lens or to atleast source them for very few $ each.

Post up your screen shots buddy 😉 , i dont think too manny care at this stage about any standadisation, infact i dont think manny can wait lol. For a general rule though in screen shots we normally take a photo of a common film. These are normally say a couple of cartoons such as shrek, south park ect , a couple of well known movies such as terminator, harry potter ect and a couple of vga use if aplicable. As an alternative we somtimes take a couple of shots with a room light on and off to get a better idea on the brightness ect. Projected image size is also helpful.

Looking forward to the pic's🙂

Trev 🙂

The 5 watt has been out for a long time. Development on this product is unlikely to progress. The 5 watt white has a limited life w.r.t. light output. The best one for development is the LuxeonIII. It is sitting at 65 lumens when ran at 3W (30% down after 50,000 hours), or 80 lumens at 4W (50% down after 20,000 hours). I think you may need a new insider..... 🙂
