Subwoofer no sound or hum!

I was just jamming to some music at about 30 volume on the receiver and the sub was hitting hard. It started making a popping and crackling sound I immediately stopped the music. I then ran over to it and turned the gain to very low and started the music back up. Now I have absolutely no sound out of the sub not even a hum. I pulled the sub out of the box and verified the connections were fine. There isn't a burnt smell on either the receiver or amp. Any ideas what to test? Where to start? Whats a guess on whats wrong?

The amp still has a green light while turned on. And the receiver appears to be fine. Did the plate amp just blow?

you can check the woofer coil(s) with a AA 1-1/2 volt or 9 volt battery; disconnect the speaker wires from the amp and just touch/connect the battery for a split second, the speaker should give a good push.

Also, I keep a speaker or two that are ready to be trashed, just to test an amplifier in situations like this. If the speaker coil cooks in a split second, bad news, but no harm done.
