subwoofer help

i just build a sub using a vifa ma26wr0904 in a 1.5cuft sealed box as suggested.my problem is that the voice coil hits the back plate easyly and make a very noticeable noise.what can i do about this?will a smaller box help?by the way the box is sealed very tight with alot of bracing.the woofer seams to move to much for the power i'm using.

You could go ported, which will bring that problem lower in the frequency band, or use a smaller box. The smaller box will probably be boomy, it depends on what you want.

You're asking too much for this driver I guess.

Different people have different ideas of moderate volumes.

A smaller box will reduce excursion, increase power required to bottom and reduce bass response somewhat. In your case, dropping volume by half (21liters or 3/4 cubic feet) should increase power to bottom by almost three times. EVen so an amp capable of 200W into 4 ohms should probably be able to bottom it. If you want more SPL, you need more woofers or woofers with longer excursion
