Looking for a good match subwoofer for my Chilli Changs. The Chillis are using the fostex 167e drivers in a 11'X14' room. Great sounding drivers, but I feel that I'm pushing them a little too much when I listen to rock or very dynamic music (I can hear some kind of doppler? effect with the sound in the mids when the music becomes very dynamic/demanding). The Chillis produced good bass when placed nearer the walls, but after moving them away from the wall (experimenting) I found that the music was better mid-high range. So, my thoughts are to use a bass to help lower frequency extension, fill in for the loss in bass from moving speakers out, and to help carry the load on some of that more demanding music.
Questions:
1. I'm building a tubelab se amp (2a3c drivers) and am thinking of sending the source signal to the subwoofer that has a hp filter to then send the signal to the tubelab se. Is this the best route? I know it would be the easiest.
2. What would be the recommended crossover point for the subwoofer with these speakers/drivers? I like the Chilli's ability with midbass, just need the subwoofer for the added volume and lower extension.
2. What are your suggestions for a subwoofer (diy or otherwise) given the room dimensions and a $500 and under price?
Cheers,
Matt

Have you considered something from the great white north?

That is a really good one. I'm putting together 2 subs with a apir of these in each. I'll probably run them sealed (or aperiodic)
