Hi, i'm interested in building a subwoofer to be used to listen all kinds of music and for reproduce very loud movie bass effect. My room is 15 square meters. The drivers of my interest are those:
Monacor SPH-450TC SPH-450TC - Stage-Line 18 inch subwoofer 2 x 500WMAX 2 x 4 Ohm - Europe Audio
Monacor SPH-380TC SPH-380TC - Stage-Line 15 inch subwoofer 2 x 400WMAX 2 x 4 Ohm - Europe Audio
I Would use a Behringer EP2500 like subwoofer amp.
Thanks for your attenction.

Very loud and 20hz movie effects....go with Josh's Gjallerhorn.
Plug in your drivers specs into the Hornresp input...

Thank you for your answer! I would a subwoofer with flat response from 20 to 100hz. A powerful subwoofer with a good pressure and deep bass. My shearch, now has restricted to 2 drivers. Monacor SPH-380TC and CIARE PW392 (http://www.ciare.com/pdf/catalogo/PW392.PDF)
I've simulated with winisd pro. For both, i chosed a box of 127 liters tuned to 23,5hz. From my simulations, ciare is better than monacor. What do you think?
I have not tried to simulate Tapped Horn configuration..

Hi,
But I've simulated the Ciare PW392 driver in T-TQWT's:

Hi, i've seen your simulation.. It's great! But one thing isn't clear, the graph of diaphragm displacement, is equal to graph of cone excursion? Sorry but i'm impractical in tapped horn construction..xD

Hi cla89,
In time you'll learn too:The graph of diaphragm displacement is = the graph of cone excursion.

Have you read about the "El Pipe-O"?
We built one of there with an old EAW 18", a single sub is just amazing! Just duct tape all your pics, statues, glasses and everything you have on top of any furniture, The bass is incredible!
here´s a link http://www.passdiy.com/pdf/el-pipe-o.pdf
Cheers

I hope to learn much of diy! But also i want to learn english very well!
However an 18" subwoofer is too large for my room. It's 15 square meters, it's too small for this driver. I think it need of a large room for reproduce very low frequency..Is no it?

You do not need a large room to make very low frequencies. The size of a room (long dimension) will tell you at what frequency the room will begin to exhibit room gain (pressurization) if it is well sealed.
Here is a paper written on the topic. http://www.cartchunk.org/audiotopics/SmallEnclBass.pdf
If you have any questions about the Language or maths please ask.
Sincerely
revb.
okok I understand! But there is a software to design a Tapped Horn? because with hornresp i don't know the measures of yhe box..

Follow transducer's are very good for large vented chambers (1000-2000 liters):
1) 2 pcs PD2150 or PD186
2) 2 pcs McCauley 6258
McCauley.com : Products: Accessories > 6258: Overview
for examples go to my website
For smaller cabinets (as "closed box") follow bass drivers are very good:
1) 2-4 pcs Eminence LAB12 and LAB15
http://www.eminence.com/pdf/LAB_12.pdf
2) 2-4 pcs ETON 11-581-50-hex
Bässe*-*Home-HiFi*-*Produkte*-*Eton GmbH
The value for Qms by the SPH-450TC is possibly too low for a clear and tight bass response.
This reminds me at the Qm value of the Magnat Agressor 6000 and 5000, that I have both heard and measured several years ago.

Very bad for me in all respects (except SPL).
BTW - avoid exotic variantes so as dipoles and prefer vented or closed boxes - independend of the available space in your room.

Trust this guy! I just built a design of his, I no longer consider building "standard" subwoofers anymore. The sound is like no other..... the only thing so far that I have found to compare it to, is live music at a concert. That kind of power and pressure. You have to make a fairly large enclosure, but you get low extension and moderate to high efficiency, and an effortless, powerfull sound.
@ tiefbassuebertr: I've seen your post, but 1000liters are too much for me..i wouldn't exceed 200liters..I have already a 12inch subwoofer but it's small for my prerogative. That's why i'm opting for a 15 or 18 inch driver able to reproduce a flat responce between 20 to 100hz with a good sound pressure. I've read about the SPH-450TC that it's lacking in punch.. It doesn't work very well..
@permo: also i know that the T-TQWT's configuration is better, but i don't know still design a horn. I've found a guide on the web and i hope to learn quickly!

Flat down to 20 Hz and only 200 liters? Very very small for undistorted 20Hz by resonable SPL.
Only closed box is possible, if low distortion is desired (i. e. not vented box). And only with help of electronical correction from the frequency response (acoustical 36 dB high pass/subsonic filter must be obtained by a -6db cuttoff frequency of 15-18 Hz).
But you can also try a bassreflex port, however choice a tuning frequency arround 45-50 Hz (for rockmusic 20 Hz are not necessary). So your vented aera is not too small.
BTW - read my explanations on my website - because the language is German the lanuage tools from google for translate in your language are more helpful than by translate in english - so I think.
What are the outside proportions you prefer?
Perhaps this transducer with exceptionally good price-performance ratio is a good choice.
Precision Devices PD.2450
or this one:
Precision Devices PD.2150
Precision Devices PD2150 | 21"zoll 54cm Worldclass - Referenz Subwoofer Chassis, Selbstbau - HIFI-FORUM
One of both is used in the commercial available sub woofer model "Sub 2100" from ADAM Audio
Sub2100 - Description | ADAM Audio GmbH
Sub2100 - Downloads | ADAM Audio GmbH
For distortionless sonic transmission down to the lowest register the vented aera is to be closed.
Then this commercial subwoofer sounds good.

FYI,
A late response: IMO: Both drivers are good driver components but different.
Provided they are put in suitable designs targeting proper system qualities and use, both will provide good FR extension/ blameless SQ at SPL's loud enough for most listeners.
Submitting a simulation with the Monacor: Stage-Line_SPH-450TC drivers.

Hi ! 🙂
I have the same question, can I join you ?
Have you got any documentation about Qms, please ?
I was thinking a low Qms means low mechanical losses.
My actual subwoofer has a Qms of 11.221 !
