Brand new to the forum and here with lots of questions. Hopefully some answers too.
Here's what I have going on for my sub stage. I currently have a 15" Alpine Type R (car audio subwoofer) paired with 2 Acoustic Elegance 1050G passive radiators powered by a Crown XTi1002. It has good amounts of output and great low frequency response. My biggest complaint is uneven coverage in my living room.
Recently, a buddy let me borrow a set of first generation Fi Audio Q12 (dual 1 ohm)subwoofers. I plan to use both of them. Don't know what I want to do with them yet. I thought sealed at first, but then I though that's too easy. I thought I could use the passive radiators. I modeled it out with WinISD, and the low frequency response isn't as good with the 2 Qs but the SPL is more.
Couple of questions, how much would I benefit by doing 2 separate enclosure (one on each side of my mains) and does the side the Passive radiator sits on have anything to do with directivity of sound?(should I have the PRs built the same or mirrored if I do two enclosures?)
Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Here is a thread on using multiple subs to even out the room response: http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/subwoofers/134568-multiple-small-subs-geddes-approach.html. See Post #5 for a link.

Regards,
Well, I'd read you put the sub where you sit then move around the room till it sounds best then put your sub there.
I like a sub to be between the front speakers. Stuffed over in a corner may be louder but it is more disconnected from the sound, especially if it is not a ppsl.
I just stick the sub wherever then sit where bass is good. When in a cement basement, I tried putting subs in opposite corners, 1 in middle of wall and 1 in corner. Instead I went right back to putting both of them together in the corner. Now I have them lined up (4x15's) across the floor 1 2 3 4, along the front wall with the speakers sitting on the ends, starting 3' from the corner. And yes there are bass black holes in the room, especially 3/4 of the room away.

With that amount of subs to play with, I'd probably look into trying a Double Bass Array type arrangement. It's supposed to significantly reduce the effect of standing waves on the bass response.

Tried that, but I move around the room all the time. Wherever there is an open seat is where I sit. Kind of why I am looking for even coverage. I'll have to read some of the posted links.
Repeat from every seat and use multiple subs.😉Tried that, but I move around the room all the time. Wherever there is an open seat is where I sit. Kind of why I am looking for even coverage. I'll have to read some of the posted links.
Anyone have any idea about the passive radiator question? Does the side the radiator is mounted on effect/affect the directivity of the sound? I know subwoofers are supposed to be omnidirectional, but in real work, It isn't the case or my senses and room acoustics are completely throwing me off.
Thanks again everyone.
