Hello,
My 3 years old child just killed a Vifa C17-WH-09-08 driver from my best friend.
Obviously new or 2nd hand Vifa can't be found on the market.
With which other more recent driver can I replace the Vifa driver to keep the same sound quality level?
Thank you in advance for your advice
Patrice

I am not sure the p17wj would be a good substitute, last time i heard them they sounded very dull and lifeless compared to the snappy c17wg-69. i guess c17wh sounds similar to c17wg, both with paper cones compared to poly
I'm not so sure. Whereas the P17 is a very good driver, it doesn't do things the way the C17 does. A Seas H1217 might be a better replacement, but first: what is killed? Surrounds can be replaced like dust caps can. If the driver is damaged otherwise, things become complicated.

P17 has a polypropylene cone, not comparable to the paper cone of the C17 at all.
Your best bet is to find used C17 WG or WH (larger magnet), they show up every now and then.

New woofers must be about as loud as the old(and not much louder), you cannot adjust their level much, even with a new bass section to the crossover(coil impedance, that's about it, maybe one db).
So, repair or relace w/same is the easiest path.
If you are good enough, replace the woofers w/similar sensitivity, and design whole new crossovers(best path for long-term reliability).
