I have beautiful 5 cubic ft ported cabinet. can any one recommend a top quality 12 inch sub and amp to go with Marantz SR 6015 AVR. Thanks
Depends on the driver's Vas and especially its Qts spec: Vb = 20*Vas*Qts^3.3
12" with 5 cubic
interesting
sounds almost like pro sound.
in a large .5 Q
good question, but tough to think
off top of my head.
yeah exactly be high Qts

sorry I actually got that wrong it turns out to be a 9.34 ft.³ box with a 6" x 6" round port . Somebody told me that base box pro indicates a 15 inch Dayton ulti max would work. can anyone confirm? thanks for the help
all greek to me i am not going to resolve it. sounds like 9 cubic ft is within range. then i can experiment with port lengths. do you think i am better off with a dsp subamp to help me dial it in?
DSP is invaluable for bass management but it's a tool that requires data from in-room measurement and some idea of what you are trying to accomplish.
You can find an endless supply of knowledge on this forum but it helps to learn a little bit of Greek😉

Max flat: Vb = 20*224.25*0.47^3.3 = 13.111 ft^3/371.27 L
0.42*19.5*0.47^-0.96 = 16.91 Hz Fb = 15.75" L x 6" dia. vent
Vs:
9.34 ft^3/264.48 L, 27.5 Hz Fb = 6" L x 6" dia. vent per Hornresp sim
It's rated 800 W, which allows it to meet THX LFE cinema reference, so a bit overkill in most HT apps.
A 6" dia. vent can only handle ~150 W without some audible 'chuffing' = THX mains reference, though placed along a wall or preferably in a corner will boost it back up.
Attached overlay shows how under damped/'boomy' the smaller cab tuning is, so will need significant EQ to flatten it in room since the vent would be way too long = ideally requires dual 18" PRs.
Re amp, ideally want +6 dB dynamic headroom, so at least 300 W (+3 dB) if never likely wanting to use at THX reference and preferably a 600 W amp otherwise and accept that the vent will choke it some.

thanks that was great but all over my head. can you tell me if dayton 15 will work in my cabinet and what a can do to improve cabinet. thanks again for the help
You're welcome!
If sealed, otherwise (min) dual 15" PRs tuned in room/position for best overall performance.

have you ever heard of bass box pro? I am told that my cabinet will work as is (9.3 ft.³ +6 x 6 round port . maybe they are just saying that to sell me the speaker?
Yes, I'm aware of it and also know from experience that Hornresp (HR) is very accurate, so if BBP says that big peaking response at ~32 Hz is a good performer, then DIY folks should avoid it like the plague IMNSHO. As for the other, FWIW I was on its forum early on and quickly was told just politely 'enough' by two (still?) prominent posters with their own DIY/PE offerings for sale that the forum was only about helping folks use PE products, so took the hint and moved on since I was mostly interested in debunking the mass quantities of marketing BS on the various forums.
That said, you seem to want to make this work, in which case you can stuff the box to 'taste' to roll it off, but in an HR sim it winds up with a ~ sealed box response without its higher inherent sound quality (SQ), though with slightly better power handling or just 'critically' damp the vent with the pioneer's inexpensive 'click test' as I prefer/recommend.

what are pe products? it doesn't seem to me that speaker manufactures are engaged in mass marketing if they recommend speaker cabinets that will make their speaker sound horrible. what forum fwim??
