Just to think:
I was looking about the SVS PB 1000 sub, which is a 10" driver in a ported box too. I saw it's dimensions and tried to estimate it's volume (assuming its a 3/4" mdf and a 2x shapes at the baffle). I estimated a ~70L box! Even so, they use a very long 3,5" port curved inside the box.
So, there is no magic here: It's very difficult to make a small ported sub !!!
Hence manufacturers using PRs if cost can often allow! Prevents crazy ports and maximizes internal volume.
