Hallo friends
dear friends
i am having two tower speakers of jbl make MR30 model for fronts and jamo center18 for center channel and mordaunt short ms10 i for rear speakers in my home. Till today i am not using sub, i found lack in bottom end, so i want to connect a sub to my system.
I want to make a sub of my own,in india we are getting pioneer brand dual voice coil car subwoofers,so i want to make a subwith pioneer DVC car subwoofer. iam having a spare stereo amp of technics make,i want to use it to drive my sub.
i am using creative audigy 2ZS sound card to enjoys dts tracks,
in the soundcard it is having facility to divert low freqencies to sub.
my request is any body please tell me whether i can use this stereo amp(capable to 4 ohms ,but not having bridging facility) to drive the sub?
2)whether car sub &home sub are different?should i use it?
please suggest me .

Yea,you can use that amp. Aslong as it can cope with the 4ohm subwoofer,there shouldn't be any issues.

Car subs might not be as high quality as some of the (more expensive) home-type subs,but they'll still work fine.
Car subs are usually geared more towards loads of power,and SPL,not always so much on sound quality. Thier ratings can be a bit 'false' at times also.

Right now,in my room i'm using car subwoofers,powered by car amplifiers,and a (solar charged) battery bank. 🙂

If it's possible, purchase a Pioneer DVC with two 4 ohm coils. That will allow you to run the sub at 8 ohm with the sub wiring in series, hence, no problem with the stereo amp. You will probably want to upgrade to either a bigger sub/more pwerful sub in the future and that will require an amplifier with more power.

one channel driving of stereo amp

the DVCpioneer is having 2ohms/8ohms you can select it,so i selected to use 8 ohms so load is no problem for my amp,the actual doubt is that now i have to use only one channel to drive that sub from my stereo amp.whether driving only one channel damage the stereo amp?
pleaseadvise?

Using only one channel won't damage your amplifier at all.

You could buy another pioneer to use the second channel ! 😉

You could also bypass pioneer options of using 2 or 8 ohms.
It's a subwoofer with two coils, both at 4 ohms.
So the 2 ohms is both coils in parallel and 8 ohms is both coils in series.

You could drive one coil per channel, so a 4 ohms load per channel, it would get much louder.

You need to be careful to plug them in phase, so they work with each other, not against each other.

yes it is having two voice coils,series giving 8 &parallel giving2 ohms. i want to implement your suggetion of coneecting two coils of one woofer to two channels of stereo amp to drive 4 ohms each to get loud,but how to connect in phase?i am not understanding,please suggest

If the subwoofer is well made, you'll have two coils, each one will have a (+) positive terminal and a (-) negative terminal.

You connect the positive of channel #1 on your amplifier with the positive on the coil #1. You connect the negative of channel #1 with the negative on the coil #1.

You connect the positive of channel #2 on your amplifier with the positive on the coil #2. You connect the negative of channel #2 with the negative on the coil #2.

If everything is ok, when you'll play a very low tone <40 Hz it will be loud. If it's not wired correctly, sound will cancel itself and it will be quiet. If it's quiet, reverse the wiring on one coil.

You must absolutely drive both channels with the same signal from your receiver/preamp/soundcard.
