newbie question here..
been doing some reasearch on sub components and found these on ebay..


what do you guys think? nht is a good speaker and so is kiega amps. so which ones would you use? been told that the kg5230 with the nht 1259 would be a good combo for movies and music what do you think?? going to be sealed enclosure.

So are these auctions on ebay a good deal?

The 1259 was one of the top DIY drivers for a long time, and certainly a decent option. But personally, I think it's a bit dated now. I'm going to be biased, because I'm in the middle of building my sub, so of course I'm going to think that the decision I made was the best one (otherwise I would have made a different one 😀 ). But for not a whole lot more, you could get a Rythmik servo kit, which will get you a high quality TC sounds driver, a 380w amp, both designed to give you servo control. You'll get flatter response, more accuracy, more extension, more output, less distortion, and it will fit in a box about half the size. And you'll be buying from a guy who gives you decent support on the product after you purchase it.

But that's just my opinion. 🙂

-what's the best type of stuffing for the sub enclosure? and where can i get it?

-What are the "most popular" quality subwoofers and amps on the market today?

-Would you use for main speakers?? any peticular brand? or should i build my own as well?

You may or may not need stuffing in your woofer. It depends on the enclosure and the XO frequency. If you need it, use poly-fil. It's like fiberglass but is made from polyester not glass. You can ge it from Parts express or sometimes your local fabric store. I think it's sold as batting.

You should always build your own speakers if you are able. As far as what you need for your set up, that's up to you. We can't tell you what your ears like.

How big is you room?

How loud do you like it?

What is your main amp?

Are you a bass head or do you like a balanced sound? How about the highs?

I wouldn't recommend ebay unless you are well versed in it's ways. An ebay item is tough to return sometimes.

I'm thinking maybe you are ripe for a kit system Perhaps a 5.1 with a woofer and five satellites. Have you considered this route?

What is your budget?

well i like to play it loud and crisp highs are just as important a good mid's and a strong sub. the quality of the sound is just as important as the volume.

I have laminate wood flooring, and aprox 15x20ft room 14 ft sloped ceilings

I have contacts to get this type if equipment cheap. Just unsure as what to get. and what is good. I am considering in getting into becoming a distributer for this type of equipment and parts.

Currently have a kenwood reciever but will be upgrading to the Har-kar avr-240 soon, currently using cerwin-vega ls-15's for mains.

I prefer Rythmik Audio plate amplifiers, they sell a 250W and 350W version. If you need more, I'd go with PartsExpress, they have a 500W and 1000W version.

For subwoofers, currently you can go with Dayton (PartsExpress), or Acoustic Elegance or Ascendant Audio... there's many.

The Rythmik Servo Subwoofer is also a very nice kit.

i know they have fallen out fo favour with many, and ascendant audio drivers usually beat the pants off them in the same price bracket....but im gonna say that adire audio drivers are good too.

look for at the "shiva" and "tempest" series drivers....although i would personally go with rythmic or ascendant.
