My brother recently bought a box from somewhere... I'm not sure. But anyway, he had it tuned for 35Hz. The speaker he''ll use is a Tumult from Adire. I was wondering if 35Hz is too high for a home theater sub. I thought it was, but apparently he thinks 35 is right. I always hear people tuning boxes for 20Hz. Is his box ok ? (ps, he doesn't have the sub yet, so I can't tell you if it sounds good or not)
35 hz is WAY too high, hell have a HUGE peak in his 30-40 hz bass, but most of the "fun" bass in movies (IMO) is in the <30 range, meaning hes overemphasizing the notes that werent meant to be an emphasized, and not giving any attention to the most gut wrenching couch moving notes.
with a tumult, you have the ability to used a relatively small sealed box(130 litres) and still have alot of infrasonic output.
Im not usually one for sealed boxes, but if i were you id do a medium sized sealed box, with a nice big amp, and a linkwitz transform if need be.

I'm using my tumult for HT 6cubic feet tuned to 10hz. It rolls off a slight bit below 30hz but it still has serious output even down to 10hz.
35hz tuning wont do well in any setup except maybe if you're looking for a high SPL score in a car stereo competetion.
I wouldnt tune any higher than 20hz. Between 10 and 18 hertz is probably the best range. With a smaller box tune slightly higher, with a bigger one, tune lower.
