Sub amp level matching

I did a search but didn't come up with much on my issue. Move new thread maybe? I put it where I thought it should go.

My subs are too loud!

I have an audiosource AMPSUB210 with the Denon PMA S1. One input is sound from the computer's sound card into the Denon. The other input is a Music Hall CD player into the Denon.

With both sources the subs are too loud. I have to push the volume on the Denon to 12 O'clock and the sub amp gain to minimum before the music seems balanced. The subs are even louder using the CD player than with the computer.

Some kind of input voltage problem?

you are giving the sub amp too much drive (line level too high for amp input). put a voltage divider / pot between the soundcard / cd player and the sub amp.

EDIT: wish i had that problem!!! btw, i didn't think there was any such thing as 'too loud.' isn't that like a girl thats too pretty? 🙂

get 100K pot. they have three pins on them, lined up in a row. connect the center pin to the input of the sub amp. connect one of the outer pins to ground and the other outer pin to the input from your soundcard / cd player.

turn pot all the way down (center pin touching ground pin). power up soundcard / cd player. set sub amp level or volume controls to normal levels (like mabye 3 or 4 perhaps).

SLOWLY turn the pot you installed up until the listening level is reasonable for the volume you have the sub amp at.
