I would like to know your opinion on this.
I will be measuring an empty room I've built : 8x6x4 meters with an angle roof before I start working on treatment and I would like to know what do you think would be the best speaker to use/excite the room
Either :
- JBL 305P with 10" sub or any other brand really
or
- Small PA system like the dB Technologies ES602 (two sets)
What would be best and most usable ?
I would be placing the speakers where I ill have the final monitors once the room is treated.

ASR measured JBL 305P, so their data should be useful.
You may also want to consider soffit mounted monitor if you're doing from scratch.

Well it's undecided, plus speaker systems might change from year to year. Most likely they will have a sub and the reason why I am not concerned now is I want to treat the room based on what happens when excited. especially control the sub 300hz area. This is why I wanted to ask what would be most suitable in people's opinion, maybe based on anyone has used for this.Will your final speakers have a sub or subs?

Bass amp? Keyboard amp? PA system? Studio monitors and subwoofer?
For auditoria we used to use a starter pistol as an excitation, or a balloon burst, then later when I worked with LARES (now called E-coustic Systems) we used a dodecahedral loudspeaker, or dodec for short.
I recommend a speaker that you can access trustful naked frequency response, I mean anechoic response. What you need is a reference, otherwise your measurement will be endless. Your measurement will keep changing depends on the speaker and mic position, so I would not use sub which makes things much more complicated. If the room is simple rectangle shape, you can estimate room response quite accurately with emulation softwares, and it will be a good reference as well.
That seems like too much room for 10 lb speakers to fill, even with the sub. I like the thought of medium to large PA speakers, way more bang for your dollar's. Then consider branching off later down the road with a sub, then another sub. Depending how low they go, some PA speakers don't go very low.
