Streamer for Tidal - based on Raspberry Pi 4?

Hello guys,
I have Rasberry Pi 4 and would love to use it to make a streamer..
I was kind of looking material from Ian Canada - parts look really nice...
BUT, i have a problem ....
what to use as an operating system - Volumio is monthly payment type of deal....
Would like something that is free to use....
Any ideas what to do/use??
Thank You

I started with the Pimoroni hat, which gets you going with Mopidy.
I later used a different DAC
I tried MoOde which is well thought of, but it became apparent I'd killed the Pi and I've not got back to it yet.

The Pimoroni website tells you all you need to know to get something working, you can use any DAC with the same data bus, it's maybe a useful starting point if you know as little as I do about Pi software.

I have been using piCorePlayer for years and like it a lot (and it is completely free). There is a dedicated forum here: https://forums.slimdevices.com/forum/user-forums/linux-unix

You can optionally install LMS (Logitech Media Server) on the same Pi as the player sw, but I prefer to have it on a dedicated box and shared among multiple players. This can even be a little ARM box, such as I documented on my website: https://www.jwtaudio.com/projects/an-alternative-to-raspberry-pi-for-lms This is a bit fiddly but is a cheap alternative to the Pi.

They don't seem to mention it on their website, but there is also a plugin for Qobuz, which I have been using.

If you decide to try it, be sure to use the "material skin" LMS plugin which has a nice UI.
