I wanted to dampen the horns as they're aluminum and very ringy, I'm not sure how much they actually ring once bolted down, but I wanted to dampen them as much as possible considering the lengths I've gone in the rest of the project.

I picked up some 3M auto body calk which is viscoelestic and has some mass to it.

I was quite impressed with the result, watch the video here:

(The saavy eye will spot a mistake, which I was made aware of after doing a sweep on the first enclosure =) )

Always nice when you finalize the XO and install it in the speaker and the tuning is exactly where it left off =)

XO board got some foam tape on the bottom and screwed to the front baffle area in the port enclosure

.5 inductor mounted above the binding posts

Port tubes installed, these ended up at 45hz which I liked the best, the port tubes install with 1 screw and are easily removed which makes tuning later easy.

I painted them inside and out with a brown enamel

All wiring runs through foam insulated pass throughs in the brace

Bottom door installed with stainless bevel head Allen bolts

Speaker openings got foam gaskets

Enclosure stuffed with polyester fill, I did heavy stuffing around the horn, medium heavy around the top 8" and light around the lower woofer

Almost there!

These pro drivers get loud so I did some stress testing yesterday to see what they could do, I got nowhere near their limit but did get close to maxing out the 150wpc Adcom GFA-545II running them, in the video below my cheapo SPL meter was showing about 105db at 1 meter, up close it was reading about 115, even with hearing protection on it was uncomfortable in the room.

Pushed any harder the amp starts clipping (lights start blinking).

Ports make no audible sound. The iPhone 7 mic does surprisingly well with the volume but it doesn't capture any of the bass, these 8PR200 produce strong tactile output and the strong hard bass notes in this song hit me noticeably in the chest with each pulse.

Will post more listening impressions soon, I'm quite happy with how these sound and where the XO tuning currently sits, thanks!

Hi Javad

There are two things in effect:
1.) If you listen to this on headphones you don't have the tactile effect which is contributiong a lot to the overall impression.

2.) Those mobile phones generate dynamic compression caused by the automatic level control (to be exact :automatic level control is nothing but a form of dynamic compressor). This can rob those movies of quite some dynamics. And it can rob them of some subtle details as well.

Otherwise quite fine sounding and immaculate craftmanship.

Regards

Charles
