Hello everyone! I found your forum trying to Google answers to this particular problem. I'm new to repairing receivers/amplifiers but do have experience changing out capacitors and other components on/board.
I found a Sony STR-DN1000 on a curb. I looked it up and this is a pretty expensive receiver, so I want to take on the challenge to fix it up and make it work!
Here's what it does: I brought it in and made sure it was dry then plugged it in. I heard a single relay click when plugged in. Sounds like a good sign.
There was no display or lighting on front at this point, which I don't know if is good or not. So I hit power. Relay latches and nothing. I hear it unlatch after about 10 seconds.
Now I unplugged and opened the unit. I do seem to detect a smell of burning electronic near the rear of the unit. I disassembled the unit and found nothing obviously wrong inside.
The single fuse on the board which the cord connects (I'll refer to as power board) is fine. The two fuses on the main board also have continuity. I've read that these receivers generally have a standby power circuit and a main power circuit. Looks like standby is working fine, but main will not power up.
I'd love it if someone had a schematic they'd like to share of this circuitry or if they've dealt with a similar problem. I'm finding very little information on this particular unit with problems online, presumably because it's not that old yet.
If you guys could give me some pointers on what might cause this issue and how I could check it, or just some key search terms to Google I'd really appreciate it. I'd hate to chuck such a nice receiver if I could fix it up with some effort and some components. Thanks a lot!

tauro0221, Thank you! That should be a gigantic help. I'll go through that today and print choice sections for tonight when I get home!
STR-DN1000
Did you ever figure out what needed to be repaired? I have the STR-DN1000 and it recently shut off after playing it loudly for a lengthy period of time. Now it won't turn back on. It makes a clicking sound when I press power and also when I power off. Nothing displays and no audio or video plays. Please advise.
