I'm aware this is a very old thread, since the time i started it (2006) lots of things have changed... at the time electronic projects were a hobby, now it's my job. The reason i found this thread back was because my STK4050 amplifier i had build at that time stopped working... so i googled a bit to remember how i did it and found back my own topic in the results...
i'm planning to build a new unit using 4 STK 4050 and dual separated SMPS power supplies regulated to 80V +/- and some digital controls... (2 channel bridged) just for fun i'll post full schematics if anyone is intrested after i build them...
kukayron03 18" subwoofer can be driven by STK4050 but it all depends on it's impedance and how much power the sub can handle... you need to know more specs...

even a 50" one can be "powered" straigh on the line out of a soundcard.

some woofers have low impedance.... (2 or 1 ohm for example) if it's the case you can't drive it with STK4050 correct me if i'm wrong here.
