I'm wondering whether @tony brady is still around and listening?
Anyway, yesterday, I switched one vintage amp with another: Out went my goos ol' friend Audiolab 8000A, in went my precious Onix OA 21s (plus a new MC cartridge).
Way nicer lively silky smooth rich sound, very satisfying!
Mr. Brady, this amp you made back then (40 years ago?) is still doing really very fine!
(Of course, me, being solder-addict, am wondering whether I should service it, and how... ... also drooling about a SOAP, onix or DIY!)

Changing retail products is always interesting but have you considered refurbishing the Audiolab 8000A with some new electrolytic caps? It may well sound a lot better than it does now.
