Which would be the best to use to power a 100v 130wpc Japanese amplifier out of the two or are they much the same thing?
An Auto Transformer is safer that a step down convertor in some cases as the cheap junky convertors only chop the full waveform voltage and leave a dirty wave form instead of a sine wave.

This is what I was looking at. A 1,000 Watt. Step Down Transformers – 2 Year Warranty On All Transformers
My guess is the cheaper ones are autoformers as they don't mention 'isolation'. Isolation not being required of course.
