Hi,
I recently tried my long unused Stax SR5s & SRD6 S/B energizer.
Sadly, I found out that I have low output and distortion.
Any ideas?
Thank you,
Alex
PS I am handy with a soldering iron & multi-meter.

I don't have direct experience with this, but I've read that some of the early Stax phones need to be charged for 24-36 hours before they start behaving. The SB means self-bias, so that would involve playing music through them for that length of time.
You might want to check the capacitors in the SRD6, if they've gone bad it won't store and build up the charge.
My experience is, a good set of early Stax phones power up almost immediately. My SR-X Mk3 do.

That has been my experience with old Stax SR5s as well. If they have not been in use for a while the output level may be too low at first. This will improve if they are left connected (bias voltage on) for a couple of hours.
I looked at the schematic, and most of the capacitors in the SB are film types and unlikely to fail, but there is one that is probably electrolytic and would be the suspect, a 1uF on the output of the bias generator. They tend to fail "open" or very high ESR.
Thank you, @jbau! Thank you, @bohrok2610 ! I left them connected to the power amp over night and it didn't help. That has been my experience with old Stax SR5s as well.
