I am looking at building for first pair of ESLs and want to keep the project as inexpensive as possible. I already have some transformers from an old tube project and will probably source the Bias from ER Audio. They have the best prices I've seen so far.
I tried to call a local perforator for the stators and they wanted to charge me $110 for four 40x20 stators. I can get stators from mcmaster-carr for about $60, but wanted to see if there were less expensive alternatives. I've seen expanded metal at my local lowes and wanted to know if anyone has tried this.
Thanks for any input...Lee

I have a pair of Martin Logan so I won't be building speakers in the near future.
Have you checked out this finnish dude?

How about aluminum window screen over flourescent light grates? I've done it and it works just fine. The sapcing of the holes to the material between them is almost ideal.

Mark,
The aluminum screen idea seems promising. Is that something I can get at home depot, sears hardware or lowes? Do you have a link to what the product would look like?
Thanks again...Lee

Hello Lee,
I used multi strand pvc coated wire.
Supported the stands every 20 cm or so and put a little tension on the wires !
Or you can use coper emaille wire.

Mark,
Sorry I just got your post. You meant take aluminum window screen and use the flourescent light grate as the support.
