Hi alrite well a while ago i made a terrible projector using a slide projector and game controller lcd but it worked(terrible resolution) anyways now its summer got free time so i decided to start building another anyways, i just bought a LCD screen off ebay, its kinda big 17inch, but i got it for cheap $57.00 dollars shipping included it has a dead backlight so i thought it would be perfect for this build,
Heres the specs, does anybody think this will be good for a projector? (size i know is kinda the only problem)

ViewSonic VE710B 17" LCD Monitor
Display Panel: 17.0" color TFT active matrix SXGA LCD
Resolution: 1280x1024
Contrast Ratio: 500:1
Brightness (Typical): 300 cd/m2
Viewing Angle (H/V): 85 Hz x 80 kHz

Also, as for a light any suggestions on what i should get? to get a nice image.
And, for building an enclosure any suggestions on materials, because i dont want to start a fire lol
And would the projector lens from a slide projector be any good for this screen(its a KODAK Projection EKTANAR Lens, f/2.8, 5 inch)? if not any suggestions?

Oh almost forgot the lcd has a vga input, what kind of adaptar would i need for it to accept like s-video and component??
?
Thanks Your help is greatly apreciated

sounds like you got a good deal on the LCD.
For your light source I would suggest a 400w MH bulb in the 6500K range with a CRI around 90.
I suggest wood or MDF for your enclosure, 1/2" or 3/4" thick. depending on the design of your enclosure and with proper cooling and shielding you shouldnt have to worry about a fire. you can always incorporate a thermal shut off to protect it from overheating.
I wouldnt use the slide projector lens as it is too small. it will not work. it has too short of a focal length and it is probably not very wide of an appature. in order to capture the entire panel you will need a minimum appature of 100mm and a minimum focal length of 450mm.
you will also need a 550mm field fresnel and I would go with a 220mm collimator behind the panel to get the most out of your lamp.
VGA can be converted thru an input box. they have them at most computer stores. give them a call and explain you want to run your dvd player thru your monitor and you only have VGA. see what they have for you. (cheaper then driving around with gas prices these days).

hope this helps
