Hello,
I'm new to this forum, but thought i'd jump in feet first....
I'm in the middle of a multi-amping project. What started as a two-way has now grown into a three-way architecture. So, i find myself looking for an [affordable] amp for the top end driver (tweeter, plastic dome, B&W 801).
Naturally, my thoughts drift to a tube solution. I'm kinda sold on Class-A, SE and can easily 'live' with the related [power] inefficencies. So i'm thinking that 3-10 watts is about right (bottom is 100wpc SS, mid is 30wpc MOSFET). Only has to handle 3.5KHz and up.
Maybe EL84s?, maybe EL34s?, maybe 2A3s?
NOS or 'new'?
If NOS: which of the 'available' units would be my best bet [other than Dynaco ST70 😉 ]? I'm a tweaker, so mods are highly probable and "classic" value is depreciated. I'm sure there's a pandora's box of opinions on this subject, but i'm hoping for some guidance that centers upon my particular needs.
If 'new' (read: DYI, Kit, not retail), what/where should i look for things "up my alley"?
Thanks in advance for your kind thoughts,
LarryO

You should use single ended for tweeter and midrange. You don´t need much power there.
Single ended mosfet or valve is personal taste.
For the bass I don´t know. A valve amp at high power is very expensive. I like the EL34 and the 6550 in ultra linear puch pull topology.
The new versions are very good. Something from Svetlana is very good.

Something to look at. http://gabevee.tripod.com I just built the CGV 0606 and I couldn't be happier with it. Got lots of support from Gabe as well. I also agree with using them for mids and highs. SE tubes are a lot smoother and more detailed than SS. At least this amp beats out my A75 and I didn't expect that could be done. Good luck
P.S. The sound is in the tubes so buy the best that you can afford.
