Looking good!

Is the floor tile added to try and reduce high frequency output through the horn mouth?

i think the opposite if the c.c. and horn path (expansion) are off. bill fitzmaurice had told me on AA hiE forum, that sweeping curves don't matter in the BW we're designing for.

the stepped panels and tight 90ºangle's keep hf from making it's way in one direction or the other.

My Austin are in the house and playing:headshot:
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

I have been adding to the cc chamber and have them sounding pretty good. I need a little more time with them.
Also I need to work on the room, as I took out my floor to ceiling bass traps from the corners these are in.
All in all I am pleased at this point, but the bass seems a little muddy. Great sound stage and wide sweat spot:cheers:

Cheers

Mr. Ed, congrats on your build. Does the supra-baffle standing proud of the baffle proper result in a too-big chamber? Serenechaos was inclined to get the same width but by building out only from the sides (supra-wings).

Also, echoing mp9, the deflector makes a difference, even if you just stick a different (unused) speaker back there to sort of "divide" what comes out.

mp9, the Austin does indeed sound great with the FE166ES-R. Mssr. Serenechaos brought his over yesterday (and left them, wh00t!!) I will post a comparison of Austins vs. BiB's (same driver in each).

I confess operator error :headshot:, in my tired haste the other night I got one hooked up out of phase... all is right and glorious now.🙂

I made the supra baffle 2 layers not three and I have added an extra piece of wood in the cavity, plus some roll cage padding and it seems just right. The padding is quite similar to the swimming pool noodle, someone else was using.

These are pretty impressive, I can wonder what it will be like after room tuning!

Cheers
Ed

Reporting back on cc stuffing for the 168ES on these.
I feel like I have found the happy spot here. 🙂
My supra baffle is two layers, not three as the plans show.
I have added another layer of plywood to the #4 board that forms the upper rear surface of the cc chamber.
I have two pieces of jute in the chamber. One side wall and the lower or opposing surface of the #4 board which is #1 covered with 1/2" jute.
This combination yields the best bass extension and clear natural vocals.
Hope this helps anyone out there building these with the 168ES drivers.
Cheers
Ed
