Got myself a new ' used' turnable this week end. A Stanton Str8 150, with a Groovemarster v3 cartridge and I think it beats my Heybrook TT2 Linn basic Grado Gold combo. It is well regarded in the DJ community, but you dont find nothing in the HIFI community except from Mapleshade audio who says it is super good....
My pre amp is a Conrad Johnson PV12 recently re tube......and my Heybrook was calibrate by Robert from Son Ideal in Mtl. So I was not expecting much from the Stanton ( a DD) but wow... it was super good!!!! Any info on those???? They sell for 599.00 , a good deal I think..... Tell me want you think!!!!

I wouldn't put any disc I cared about on the STR8.😱Got myself a new ' used' turnable this week end. Ha ha LOL!

Because of the str8 arm on it? The have a S arm version. Explain please? I'm planning to get the st 150 anyway, I'm not DJing with it ....😉
Yes, the str8 arm is not the best for vinyls.... but it has a certain dynamic about it.. My other arm is a Linn Basic Plus.. also a strait arm...As I said, I was not expecting much about it.... but it plays very good.... maybe I'm destoying my vinyls....😉

Yup.Because of the str8 arm on it?
Still, I see nothing attractive or non-generic.The have a S arm version. Explain please? I'm planning to get the st 150 anyway, I'm not DJing with it ....😉
I have yet to order anything from them.Mapleshade audio who says it is super good....
I've duplicated the best I could many of their resonant control products with excellent results. I have learned to trust their reasoning, logic and claims because of this.
I am looking for a beat up (hope to provide my own arm) direct drive TT to customize. The Mapleshade observations about the Stanton ST-150 puts it at the top on my list as a donor. I've not found anything close to it's torque start up numbers, at least not without adding zeros to the list price.
Here in Montreal, you can find some at 330.00 on the used market....;-) Since the first post I did sell my STR 8 I bought a new Stanton st 150 ( that same model, but the regular curve arm... 499.00 new. look on ebay.
This table looks very much like a Technics - the type which seems to be held in such high regard and is attracting all sorts of professional modifications. (SL1200 or similar). If the plinth of the Stanton is alloy rather than plastic, and the base fairly substantial too, i.e. not too resonant, then it's a good buy. If not, might be worth making your own custom plinth.
I'd try something other than that Grado, I had one (Reference Platinum) on an SME 3009 Series II arm on a long departed TD-125/I and found it seriously lacking compared to a Denon DL-103D (antique) amongst others. Take a look at the Nagaoka MP200 and up, and several Ortofons as well...
