The R100 is on the top, red cable +voltage, and the SIT is in the lower part, input cable....look at the picture.😀
I saw that , but just couldn't resist ....

yeah ....... SIT Zen amp with front knob adjustable bias ;
also - evaluating all that with Funky Tannoys ; each member of chosen evaluating team have identical set of Tannoys in Jensen Imperial cabs .....

I think I am, and that keeps me out of some trouble.
But I don't beat myself up over it. Acceptance.

hi tea-bag,
happy to hear from you...... and happy to hear you prefer the Lowther Alnico over the DX, that saves some money for me.
so we could try to drive our working Mu followers without j-fet fronted..... only for pleasure!🙂

Mike Rothacher has previously reported that his design has that also.
😎
Indeed. 🙂
I promise the article really does exist. In fact, there are two.
They are both in the capable hands of an illustrious and intrepid publisher even now.
P.S. I like the cliffhanger prototype reviews. They're fun.

Nelson,
Do you have an extended output graph for the R085. I am going to put it into a Zen style amp this weekend to try to get a feel for sound at different bias points.

Do you mean thd vs output? The existing graphics pretty much show
it clipping above 10 watts. The characteristic curves put out by SS
are not particularly helpful in this regard as they only address the
linear region up to about 6 volts.
I suggest that you set an arbitrary bias current and adjust Vds bias point
and either measure or take a listen.
Alternatively you can set an arbitrary Vds and adjust the bias...

I was talking about the output characteristics graph that only goes to 6V. I was going to try the whole load-line thing, but I will do as you suggest. Question. Is the thing that makes the SIT special, the fact that it has no saturation point, operating in the linear region throughout its available range or is it the concave shape of the response curves.
I just saw a couple new paragraphs were added.
That absolute polarity observation is no joke. I'm a believer.
The SITs are spoiling me. There's really no going back.

Michael, might one get you to drop hints on what kind of sound signature the amp you're publishing has?
To borrow a phrase from the vdeo game generation:
'It's like a unicorn crapped a rainbow in my brain.'

Sorry, I couldn't resist.
Self-review is kind of a slippery slope, but it's a fair question. I think they have remarkable clarity and really nice, vivid soundstaging. The more I listen to them, the more I like them. An idealized triode, without the tube baggage springs to mind. That's all I can preview now. The rest is in the article.
It's all speculation on my part, but I imagine the FW amps must sound pretty freaking awesome. 🙂

You'll soon know first hand, lucky boy.
