oh yeah lifter i can only get 11 7/8" of the lcd with the elmo fresnel you loose 1/8" but thats better than 5/8" with the glued fresnel and there are 0 rings visible on the screen now he needs an elmo condensor and it will be brighter not bad for a $5.12 bulb

excellent job Cruser!

excellent job cruser its amazing how bright it went after the mod lol it suprises me even, ill keep an eye out for some good big condensers for ya mate and for those who want one in here, i like the design on the setup u made for the frensels its a pro job and very solid all u need now is a 250w mh setup and your cooking lol

its a 3m 9800 ohp

Hi, Cruser, nice work!

I understand you have two OHPs. The one you are currently using is a 3m 9800. another one is an elmo a305sd from which you took out the condensor lens. Just wondering why do you use 3m instead of a305? isn't a305 a better/brighter OHP? currently I have a 3m 9550 and I just bought a elmo a305sd with an aged lamp, so I am curious about your decision.

By the way, invsol inc. has some a305sd with aged lamps for $100. I think it worths a try for those who want to take advantage of cheap replacement HMI 575w bulbs.

after dissembling it i got my plans out and took some more measurements and decided to split the fresnels right off
oh yeah gui thanks for the idea to sandwitch the top fresnel in plexiglass works like a charm🙂

so i set up my table saw router table and miterbox
my buddy also brought some 3/4" oak plywood to construct the encloser since he had more than enough i decided to make mine at the same time

i layed out all the pieces and went to work this is a couple pictures of the construction phase
here i assembled the lower section to hold the bottom fresnel and lcd

So the sandwitch idea does work? It removed the curve in the fresnel?

hi 18wheeler yes it does seem strange that i would use the 3m over the elmo but i had them both side by side and the elmo lens
does not compare to the 3m lens as for the brightness its not that much of a difference once the lcd is placed on it to justify
the difference in bulb price im not saying its not brighter but to say the elmo 305 is a better ohp than the 3m 9800 is a joke

if i could get the 575w mh bulbs for like $20 then i would convert the 3m to use that bulb but $90 for a 750 hour bulb is a joke

well today i got a piece of low-e argon glass from work out of a replacement window
i decided to do a little testing with it to see if it would eleveate
some heat from the lcd so i tossed it on the ohp put my hand over the glass and big dissapointment
i figure it would save about 5 degrees if that
but thats not the bad part it also dimed the light about 20%
not to good of a trade off so i guess the low-e glass is not the way to go
just thaught you guys would like to know

Just to clarify things a bit, you guys can confirm that with a split fresnel and on screen re-sizing you can get the full 15' lcd image to project without any cut-off or dimming at the corners?

im not quite sure i follow you but with the elmo 305sd fresnel you can get 11 7/8 inch of the 12 inch horizontal display on a 15" lcd
and its very evenly lit corner to corner by spliting the fresnel

with the 3m 9800 fresnel you can get 11 5/8 inch

if you can adjust the horizontal size on the lcd both fresnels will allow you to see the entire display but you loose a few pixels
i think its worth the trade off in size compared to a 14" lcd and the quality of a 15"

So even with the split fresnels and screen re-sizing we cannot yet project the entire image of a 15" LCD? I thought someone in this thread said that you could adjust the horizontal and vertical so that they would fit, oh well. Since I want to use my projector as a HTPC and I won't be just watching movies on it I'll most likely get tired very quickly of not having a full window image.

ok im sorry i didnt realy understand the origonal question too well

if you can adjust the horizontal size you WILL see the whole display on the screen

what i meant by missing a few pixels was you have to adjust the horizontal size 1/8 inch for the elmo fresnel or 3/8 inch for the 3m
fresnel but you WILL project the whole image

you dont have to touch the vertical size at all
it will display it all no problem

Infocus 2600 fresnel

Hey Im not sure if this fits , sorry if it dont.

I won two panels on ebay for $5.50 USD, Infocus2600 and the infocus 160GS. as I looked them over something wass different with the 2600 model it seemed to have fresnels on both sides of LCD. I took it apart and sure enough they were fresnels.
they measure aproxiamately 7" x 9" and spaced aproxiamately
1 5/8 " apart from each other with the display side flush to the fresnel.

These units came with no power supply. so I'm hunting those mainly for the 2600. The power supply input on the 2600 looks kind of like a S-video input.

Cruser...

In that pic, it looks like you had to cut off parts of the fresnel to fit it in the enclosure you made.

18wheel...

Theres a bulb on ebay right now for only around $10 right now and theres only 9~ hours left.

Just search for Elmo solar deluxe
