Yesterday I was using a new ripper/burner program to make some CD-R's and popped the first one into the Maggie 650, and it tells me there's: 99 tracks and 32 minutes. Well that's wrong, as its: 9 tracks and 69 minutes and change... Anyway, it gives an error when I try to go to a track, so thinking there something amiss with this program (version .99 Beta 4 ) I make up several other CD-R's and they all read the same... HUHH? HUHH?.
Anyway, I've got three other Maggie players, including a second 650, so I'm testing these CD-R's in the other sets and they all come up fine, 9 tracks and 69 minutes 29 seconds. So, is the first 650 Kaput, or has someone seen this problem before?

Usually, the earlier Philips/Marantz/Magnavox models with the CDM1/2/4/9 mechs. read CD-R fine, as proved by your other player.
You can always swap parts over to try and narrow down the fault
but if it reads commercial cds OK, I would guess at a problem with the computer chip, maybe an early version?

Well I guess time passes, my guess is that I didn't have it powered on for five or six months..... so I left it running overnight and now it works properly. I guess some caps were in need or reforming.. Maybe I should go in and start testing the power supply caps, all these sets are now 20 or close to twenty years old.. Now I have another maggie, really old (1985,86?) from the days before they invented remotes for CD Players, I wonder if that will also misbehave after several months disuse?
