Speakers lying around - can I put them to use?

Hi,

I am new here and new to speaker building...

I have a couple pairs of speakers lying around leftover from a car audio project and I would really like to put them to use. They're of reasonably good quality in the car audio world but I have no idea how that translates to home use.

I'm wondering if there is anything that could be done with these speakers that might result in a decent home audio speaker?

If so any design suggestions or hints would be greatly appreciated!

I would like to use active/electronic cross overs because I also have the equipment for that available...unless that's a big mistake or not feasible in this environment?

First and foremost I guess though is whether these drivers stand a chance of working together...

First is a 4" point source full range speaker with matched passive crossovers.

I am willing to invest some time and money if these can be turned into a nice sounding pair of speakers. If its destined to be junk I will just sell them for someone to use in their car.

I'll just try get this ball rolling here, there are lots of ways you could go.

I'm not familiar with these drivers but if they sound good to you in a car I'd imagine they'd sound good for home use too.

Looks like you have all the parts you need (amps, crossovers etc) so why not build a suitable box for them and see how they go?

Do the manufacturers suggest a volume for the enclosures? Otherwise you can play around with a program like this, LinearTeam, to stick in the specs of the drivers and calculate some boxes for you.

I took the plunge myself. Built a set of book shelf speakers using a set of Fusion Component Drivers, using WinISD to design an enclosure. They sound almost as good as the Jamo or Infinity units that I have.. I'm pleased..

92 Hz is pretty high for Fs. Car speakers are mostly designed to be used in big leaky volumes like doors or rear decks, so their may be no reasonable closed or vented box volume. You'd probably need a subwoofer crossed over well above 100 Hz, or go 3 way.
