Me too -bipoles can be very effective. 🙂 I did a couple last month for MA, along with some EPI quadrupoles for grins -a few more for other drivers in the works at the moment.
Driver on the backside does work, but you will have a bipole dip from the extra distance to the ear from the backside (timing is ersect if they are on the sides).
This can be minimized by incresing the width-to-depth ratio of the box, a LP filter on the back driver, and room placement. Consdiering there is a room this dip is not overly problematic.
Alternately, in some boxes a castle arrangement with the second driver on the top works.
