Speaker type/cab for particular application

here's - a BG20 in a Karlson type - there's a passage in this song played by the late Rudy Rosa which shifts to lower register strings that is jaw dropping on a K12 loaded with Kappa12a and topped with a K-tube and beats my Klipschorn for sheer impression.

BG20 is kinda like BetsyK in tone - a toy where large dynamic contrasts are needed That said - its quite respectable for its price and being an 8 inch driver.

This is Art Welter's Dad's "K8" based on the second Karlson 12. Its tuned around 90Hz or so with large area horizontal slots.

Here's a little sealed box for you and BG20. 18-20 liters with 450uF series capacitor for a so called "3rd order box". I'll check later to see what can be done for vented box.

Power handling is around 10 watts at its maximum excursion frequency
of ~ 75Hz.

BG20's whizzer can be removed and then its response looks more like their expensive B200.

I'm used to loud things so take my comments on dynamic range with a grain of salt.

a one cubic foot vented box for BG20 will have some peaking but may sound pretty good - especially away from room boundaries.

you could stuff the port, etc. to taste

Cool - pi-align is awfully good. I'd rather 36.67 than 42 liter. Hornresp thinks they're essentially the same but with a teensy award with group delay to the smaller/lower tuned box

When BG20 was introduced at PE, I paid something like $23.80 - its really not not far from "BK" and should be tweakable

Indeed!

Yeah, reminds me of some RS, MCM drivers that could be tweaked a bunch.

Remembered some T/S measuring info from way back when that allowed me to 'tighten up' the alignment over trying to work it in HR, which limits it to 1 Hz increments, so for the record it's 38.2 L/28.5 Hz Fb.

Simple five-quarter square foot closed box, stuffed with some polyester wadding will do great job with BG20.
And very easy and straightforward to make.
If you wish something more challenging then go for karlson 8.
