Wasn't that difficult after all but my hopes and expectations are rather low. On the picture you see that VC is wound with flat aluminum wire and scraped surface of that wire shows places where VC was robbing .Some places has tinny bruises which my cause overlaping of VC windings ;(
Thin, penetrating varnish is the only thing I can think off. Any suggestions??

Also alu dust cap is firmly (looks like) attached to the VC former .

hmm yeah
i have that problem on a black widow and i'm avoiding to face it (one of these days).....
but,in my case the support for the voice coil deformed but not the coil(aluminum also),the gap is a kiler one, althoug i consider larger speakers easyer to service, this one has a 10cm coil but the gap is tight,no space for errors...so,i will give it a try with sanding, slow epoxy, sanding again....if no good i'll get a new basket........i hate to send stuff to trash.............
my thing is if it's no good why not give it a try on fixing,it's already dead anyway,,,,,if u have to waste money on replacements, thats up to how much u like them

i'll try to have a pic of my black widow

It does run true in the gap. VC former is straight and there was no robbing whatsoever after surrounds were changed. I think the marks come from attempt to play them while old surrounds were rotten. But you probably are right that it's gone. What "dope" on the VC to use?

Alright ,there is nothing I can do with shorted windings . Fact that it's a thin, flat, aluminum foil makes impossible for enamel ,varnish to penetrate in between , also I think, when the coil was robbing the edges of windings just conglomerated and there is nothing to do about it. I can make a custom FR now;0) (yep , with phase plug etc.)
Thanks for all responses.
Regards, L
