Yes, amps can sound a little different. There are two main reasons.I don't know about the matching but as my no-principle experience, I found when one (or a pair) speaker driven by amplifier A, It has sound different from driven by amp B in spite of a same driver. So I think to ask for the experiences (if any) / opinion from various people. 🙂
One is due to distortion. This has nothing to do with driving the speakers. Accurate amps tend to sound similar to each other.
The other is because some amps interact with the speaker impedance. Most solid state amps have a low output impedance to minimise this.
