Hi,

Ive got a bunch of drive units

4 x Kef B200 Sp1039
2 x seas p17rcy
2 x Morel Mdt30

Im thinking of making this an active system with mosfet amps based around the 2sk176 and the 2sj56 or the k135 and the j50 and a 3 way active x over .

I think im going to put 2 B200 units in each cabinet in either bandpass or isobarrik .Has any 1 done either using the B200 ?

Im looking to get quite low bass in the 20 Hz region.

Im thinking of putting the p17rcy and the mdt30 in a different cabinet. Will these units work together ok ?

My aim is to make a floor standing size of speakers.

Im just throwing ideas around at the moment and im tired of seeing the units on my shelf.

Id be interested to see what you guys think of my ideas

Cheers

Anthony

2 B200 will require quite a bit of volume. i dont remember exactly but i think they would need between 70-100 liters. you could make the bottom part of the tower a bass cabinet and the top part can be used for the 6" 2way.

the seas and mdt30 can work together neitehr is too diffcult a driver. i wold guess a second order XO should do. however if i had these drivers i would love to look at series XOs as they both have reasonably extended responses and well behaved roll offs

4 x Kef B200 Sp1039

That is quite a rare stash you have. That B200 was never available other than to OEMs. Where did you get them?

And to my mind these and the SP1022s were the best B200 they made. Big magnet, highish Q. These would do well in a TL (could be sizable thou).

An isobarik would allow you to halve the box size.

Hi Dave,

Ive already got a pair of kef 104 they have sp1039 B200s in them and i got a spare pair off ebay for quite cheap so ive got 2 pairs to play with now ,just not sure what cabinet formation to use for the best results band pass looks good as does isobarrik.

Ive got a single B200 sp1039 if your interested.

Cheers

dave,

as a younger person i remember seeing a 4 way project using the B139, B200, T52 and T27 in some electronic mags. i dont remember the names of the mags but i guess they were english. i assumed they were available to DIY why would there be projects published for them otherwise. now remember this is mid 70s and i am going by memory.

The 1022s were used in TLs from Precedent Audio (now the answer to a trivia question) back in the late '70s. And, yeah, it was pretty sizeable. The speaker in question, the MZ Mod 3, was top rated in Stereophile, panned by Audio Critic. They were modular, with a bass folded TL using the 1022, a midrange TL with the B110, and a T27 in a separate module. Sounded damned nice.

sp1039

Hi just speaking to Falcon Acoustics uk he worked at Kef in the 70's on the Kef 104 and many other early Kef designs. He said this particular B200 wasnt suitable for what i wanted to do.This is what he said

The SP1039 was designed specifically for the Kef 104 and has a short (0.2") coil in a long magnetic gap (3/8") This is very linear, but it has a limited excursion, and hence it would not really be suitable for use in a transmission line or coupled cavity.
