While I am waiting for Nelson to release his BOB speaker project.
I have been thinking of doing something with PHL drivers and a high eficiency tweeter.
Either a 2 way using Tweeter Woofer Woofer in a ported enclosure or
a 2.5 way using Tweeter Woofer Woofer in a ported enclosure.
What I am trying to achieve is to obtain as close to 100db/W/m as possible. 96dB/W/m is the bare minimum.
If the efficiency is high (eg >96dB) then low impedance is no longer an issue, in fact my thinking is that if the efficiency is high enough low impedance speakers can be beneficial in getting the most out of say an F5 or BA2.
Also with low impedance (eg 4ohms) high efficency you don't need high voltage rails therefore you don't need high voltage capacitors (so you save big dollars).
Anyway has anyone here built speakers with PHL drivers Welcome on PHL audio web site

We have once done a speaker for the AlephJ, which is of course well suited for all low power-low damping amplifiers:
This is a ported system (40l) with an 10" PHL and a big HiVi research planar tweeter. It has about 96 Decibles efficiency, and, much more important, rlatively low inductance.

Well, what can I say... quite precise, fast, well focused; not too deep bass, but well defined. Because of the large tweeter, you are pinned to a small sweetspot. Certainly the right type of speakers for that type of amplifiers.
