Speaker level input question

I have a subwoofer amplifier with left and right speaker level inputs. I have it currently hooked up with the line level LFE RCA connection. Rather than complicate this post, here's my question. Since it has both sets of leads, I'm thinking you can hook up both, and it sums the two channels to mono? Am I understanding this correctly?

Yes, it would have to. Probably just a couple of resistors.
Thank you. Yeah I know it's obvious, but I couldn't find any documentation for any subwoofer amps that I have looked up, that comes right out and says it. The closest I found was that if you're not using the LFE, then use both left and right RCA's and that does sum them. But to be safe it didn't hurt to ask! The only dumb question is the one you don't ask. Except, that's not true either! LOL. And I kept finding stuff that mentions how much better two stereo subs are. I just now watched a video of Paul answering a question about mono vs stereo subs and saying if you're only going to use one sub hook it up to the right channel, and the obvious question then, is why not hook it up to both left and right, if the amp has left and right. So, the truth is, it was Paul's video that made me ask the question here. Haha! Maybe I should send Paul a question next!! But you guys are much quicker!

Here's a related question I have two non powered subs, which I have powered with a pro amp, hooked up with the LFE RCA, and I am thinking about putting the sub-amp I have in one of those subs for music listening, and leave the other like it is for movies! I have a QSC pro amp that's 900 watts into 4ohms I believe...might be even more. I'm wondering if anyone thinks that would be a good idea or a bad one, or maybe I should pick up another subwoofer amp, and hook up both subs the same?

its position in the room is much more critical,
...and it's possible that's actually what Paul was referring to, when he said "right side" rather than the speaker hookup to the amp.

I have a pair of old 12 inch ACI's subwoofers. Actually the only thing left of the "ACI" part is the enclosure. It's a very nice HDF 2 cubic ft enclosure, each. I used to have their Saphire III's a long time ago. So I have avoided any modification to the enclose, so I'll probably pull the subwoofer amp out of the other box, and make a temp case for the plate amp for testing, (it's in an 8in subwoofer I made for a secondary system) and see how I like it. Paul claims you can pick up the tonality of your amp by hooking up the speaker inputs, but I primarily, want to use a sub with out the DSP processing that comes from a home theater pre/amp processor. I have an Anthem AVM 30, and if I use the DSP for the sub in 2 channel, I have a really bad kind of a hiss, , but more like added sibilance to high frequencies, which went away completely when I set the Anthem to "direct" without any processing from the Anthem. I built Joe Rasmussens' Elsinores, and they don't really "need" a sub, but they can definately benefit from a sub.

I'm basically, trying to make the best of a nice 2 channel system and Home Theater. So I have one sub still hooked up to the LFE, on the Anthem, and now I have the plate amp, hooked up with both the left and right speaker level ins. I was listening to some old Jethro Tull, and it has very little bass built into the recording, and for some of those older rock albums, I just like the idea of not only having a subwoofer, but also having a separate gain I can adjust based on the recording I'm listening to. Essentially now I have two separate mono subs. Which is not all that different than what I had before, except it was two mono subs. But now I have a sub for my 2 channel that does not have to go through any processing in the Anthem. So far I'm liking it a LOT!

I can't thank everyone on this forum enough. It sure has enhanced and made my DIY high end audiophile obsession possible!!!

What's the brand and model number of your subwoofer amplifier?
