Hey everyone,
Hope you're all having a great day.
I've been locked into Troels Gravesen’s designs for the past 6 months, obsessing over which model to build. But recently, I decided it’s time to get out of my comfort zone and explore other options, and Lautsprechershop.de came up with some really interesting kits.
That said, I have a couple of concerns:
Would love to hear your experiences before I pull the trigger.
Thanks a lot!

That said, I have a couple of concerns:
- The website looks like something my grandmother used to browse on her dial-up modem, so I’m wondering, has anyone here actually ordered from them? How was the experience?
- Some of the designs seem a bit under-documented, missing cabinet drawings and detailed build guides.
Would love to hear your experiences before I pull the trigger.
Thanks a lot!

They’re mostly just designs that have been written up in magazines like Hobby hi-fi. They put them on their website to sell more drivers. So to get the full write up and all of the details you would have to find the original magazine article. Ton und klang and hobby hi-fi are the main two contributors that I’ve noticed. Their website does look like it’s from 1997 though.😅😅
I’ve built three kits from troels, and one or two from hobby hi-fi, they’re all OK, in my opinion. With trolls, you get a turn key option, but of course you pay more for it. If you have experience and measurement equipment, you can save yourself quite a bit of money.

They are largely older designs from german mag's like said. They are ok, not top of the line or so, but not crap neighter. Their website is already at leat 25 years the same, but the shop behind it is legit and and cooperative (answers questions), also in English. Another shop that does similar things is https://www.hifisound.de/. The site and the kits are a bit more modern there.
Troels kits are a lot better, also in documentation, but they are expensive.
I don't build kits anymore since over a decade, designing is half the fun for me. So i can't give recent impressions on their actual offerings.

Thanks a lot guys!
I’m a big fan of Troels’ designs. The thing is, I’ve got a relatively large room (around 30 sqm), so I’m specifically looking for tower speakers with ribbon tweeters. Why ribbons, you ask? I’ve fallen in love with a few speakers that use high-end ribbons, and now I’m set on building something with that sound.
Troels does use the Viawave GRT-145W-4, which he praises often, but I couldn’t find any tower designs from him that include it :/
Do you know of any other websites that offer well-documented designs or even turnkey kits with ribbon tweeters?
Really appreciate the help 🙏

Both German magazines have published well-documented designs with ribbons (or AMT's or foil tweeters, I'm not sure what you're after). From small 2-way to very elaborate. I'd not rate them worse than the designs TG publishes. More no-nonsense for sure, so if you like the fiddling and boutique stuff, look elsewhere.

It's search function is brilliantly fast and accurate.
A buddy of mine made a purchase once and the whole deal went perfectly fine. It was a bargain of the year.

German DIY magazines have got a wealth of kits for purchase and they are not so much into passive parts brand name nonsense.
Lautsprechershop.de range has exploded in recent years, they used to focus on well proven designs and hone in on driver choice, and display the spec so you could do the math and select.
It now looks like they're trying to throw as much as possible at the wall to see what sticks, a change for the worse IMO.
My particular interest at the time was kits to build a pair of Transmission Line type cabinet. Lautsprechershop where one of very few websites that had these designs fully revised, with good reviews and superb drivers. Would recommend.
Website might look a bit clunky...one should never underestimate a well coded minimalist website! Too few of them!

I went there personally and picked up some speakers to listen to for a week to see what I want to build. You can also listen to speakers at their place. This is obviously only an option if you live nearby but shows that they care about their customers.
@mz543578854 Thanks! I'll be in touch with them and check. At least now I have some confidence thank you.
