Hi, I just built large, bulky speakers that need to be away from the walls for listening and closer to the walls when not in use. Need something that will be kind to recently refinished oak floors. Wondering if a full layer of wool felt might be good. But maybe spreading out the footprint is bad and a four foot approach would be best. Any thoughts? Unless it matters I am looking for a less expensive fix. No esoteric $300 speaker feet. I read about people using cut up wool dryer balls. What is the most sensible and effective approach?

@rayma what do you mean by just enough-the dimension of the pad's footprint? I was wondering if I shouldn't just buy two of these felt quilting pads and cover the entire footprint. https://ecoigy.com/product/ecoigy-17-x-24-wool-ironing-pad/
I use neoprene - the mousepad style material with fabric on both sides, a thicker than mousepad material perhaps 1/4" works very well. look at large fabric stores (sometimes have it as yardage). Easily ordered online. I glue it to my speaker bottoms. It slides easily and does not mark.

I added four 3" square felt pads to the legs of my sofa, and could push it around the wood floor with one hand.
Maybe the large pads would work just as well on the speakers, but you'll need strong adhesive.
Be aware - if there is ANY dirt or grit on the floor, sliding ANYTHING, even felt, over the floor will leave scratches. I speak from experience. My wife is smiling as I write this. You will need to lift the bulky speakers to move them if you want to leave the floor undamaged (or live in a class 1000 clean room or better).

Use the slides used in furniture, keep them off the floor with those.Mount the slides on the wall.
Repeated sliding is going to load the pads with dirt.
And if they are heavy...old people have accidents with heavy stuff.
Best is find the fabric used in car seats, it is double fabric with a layer of foam, similar items may have different uses.
All in all, not a god idea to have bulky moving speakers.

Hmm, thanks for the warnings. Seems smaller square pads on the corners might be the best way. I have one of them on these furniture moving pads I had sitting around that are wool on one side and foam rubber on the other. Not the best look but they seem to isolate pretty well. Path of least resistance?
I wasn't thinking to spend this much but I have some of Herbie's other feet isolating my NuTube preamp and they seem to work well. Seems like they have some slideability. https://butcherblockacoustics.com/c...evel-it™-feet-with-neoprene-pad-m6-1-set-of-4
Or these cheaper ones from the same shop- if I put additional sorbothane pads or mouse foot material as previously recommended on the bottom, for example. https://butcherblockacoustics.com/c...-it™-footer-neoprene-pad-swivel-m6-1-set-of-4
