Speaker - dream team

There's also the Tekton approach that uses multiple tweeters to cover down that low.
My first reflector point-source PrimeRadiant Axia used a single ceramic-dome car tweeter over the convex dustcap of a 15". A ring of them could meet the larger W400A below 1.3khz and extend above 20khz half-space omni-directional, coherent point-source with no audible comb-filtering. If played extremely loud they could be bridge-mounted over a custom convex reflector to fine-tune things if needed. But this would be "new level of fidelity" territory not so much "dream team".

OP might take any tweeter high-passed 1.3khz, bounce it off the dustcap (which should bisect the drivers' acoustic centers), move it about and listen.

this tekton approach sounds very interesting and very different from anything I came across so far. I don’t think I would be able to build it.

Do you have any sound demo of them? Just for curiosity at this stage.

I put my vote with the TAD TD2001.

Which horn would you think it’s the best?

1 - there is a long comparison and beautiful documentation from Jean-Michel Le Cléac’h about this with his j321 horn.

I really like his modern version too the E-JMLC-600. Never heard it and can’t find literature on it actually.

Or version three. The recent modern Crowe horn es600 with a bit of hype around it - but very close convincing measurements.

I read his and Jean Michaels noted highlighting it’s difficult to meet the bass part of the fidelity tad2001 can achieve?

I frankly think the fostex will. Or get close. Now, just to sample- for a two way system what would you use to pair with a TAD compression driver ? I am looking for an alternative if my imagination and assumptions won’t work out.

Not many tweeters can go below 1kHz on high power, but many can on hifi levels (<90dB RMS/105dB Peak). I like the Faital drivers a lot for that. Especially the HF-108 that is very fit for crossing at 1kHz on low volume i think. Geddes used the B&C DE250 for that with good results

Or use a coax like the B&C DCX464 (in the ME464 is good), that driver can be eq'ed to sound like you want, but even without eq it sounds good. It's the best coax that i know of and it can be crossed very low in the right horn.

The TAD is good, but a lot overhyped and overpriced i think. You can buy as good or better measuring drivers for less these days. The RCF ND-350 sounds and measures the same when level matched and cost a fraction of the price.

If you want the best woofers Fostex made for crossing high to a compression driver, the W300A and W400A series are where you should look.

Why would you choose a outdated design versus the updated , still in production and better performing TD-2002 ?
Upgraded phase plug, upgraded Be diaphragm, assembly and connections.
Redesigned motor structure, new magnet.

Since you referenced Jmmlc i added one of his documents concerning the TD-2001, then folowing the picture from the AES paper and research on the TD-2001/4001 by Locanthis/Kinoshita. So you can see some of the other issues that were targeted in the new design.

The best suited horn is one that has a matching throat geometry, and fits the compression driver.
If for the TD-2002, that is possible to attain.

TH-2002, 60x30 TAD apaxial, made bt community sound for TAD.
The 'famed' Reflexion arts Ax-2, (following Newell/Hollands design for the TD-2001).
The Yamamoto ss-500 for a easy to filer response.

Joesph crowe, ATH etc. caqn make you a suited horn depending on what you want.

Just noticed this. The message right after the embedded one links to two batches of videoclips on bilibili (China's youtube). I'm not sure if it would just play (desktop Chrome) or needed multiple prodding (Android Edge browser). I think bilibili compressed the sound; not as good as the recorded files on my phone. A couple weeks ago I encountered here on diyaudio a message with attached mp4 clip, but I couldn't figure out how to do that (from my phone). I don't think I was dreaming.... Maybe attempt youtube if there's interest.

During the upcoming Chinese New Year holiday I may also try single button tweeter bouncing off non-HE W300Aii, instead of the vintage big-butt alnico cone tweeter.

To my very uneducated eye this woofer looks quite similar to the A26RE which is used in Seas update to the Dynaco A25 which was also the inspiration for the Devore Orangutan I think.

So the T35C002 used in the Seas A26 might work nicely or the Morel CAT378 which has also been used in other A25 clones.

I may be way off the mark but might prompt other contributions.
