speaker design websites

I have a nice Linn Sondek turntable with separate power supply/ARC hybrid tube SP9 preamp/ARC Classic 30 tube amp system and I'm working on better speakers. I bought some .375 cu.ft. ported 2-way speakers with Peerless HDS 6.5" mid-bass/Peerless tweeter from Speaker City. These sounds VERY good, but the cabinets are inexpensive 3/4" particle board, and I think I would like to make some heavier/thicker MDS or plywwood boxes. I will probably keep these speakers and build another set. I can't find any websites for speaker design plans other than Orca Designs.com. Orca offers plans mostly for MTM designs and/or Raven ribbon tweeters. I auditioned a ScanSpeak medium size MTM and a 2-way small 7" Focal/Raven R1 box in my home: the Raven was weird with record surface noise, and the MTM was not focused or sharp enough (but it did fill the apartment with sound well). I listen in a small/medium size room with the speakers about 2 feet apart and about 11 feet in front of me. The speakers are aimed parrallel to a diagonal line about 2 feet to the side of it: they rest on cinder blocks. Are there other sites with speaker/crossover kit designs for Focal, Peerless, ScanSpeak, or other driver's? Why are MTM's so populer? Anyone also having good experiences with 2-way boxes? Thanks, Kip.

If you're happy with the sound of these speakers just build new boxes and transfer all the bits over as you've already got a design in front of you.

Just keep to the same internal volume. If you add any bracing or corner braces just allow for that in your internal volume by increasing by the same amount so the effective volume is the same.

Get your speakers to at least about 6 feet apart..... will give you a much better soundstage.

My opinion anyway.
