Speaker design for desktop radio - Tivoli 2 clone

Yes, thought it was obvious, but apparently not.

Well, yes and no based on a Toshiba 65" RPTV. It's audio performance is better than many DIY and consumer speaker systems I've auditioned and a major reason I chose it over the class leading Pioneer Elite, so many years later I finally got around to cleaning its insides and seeing what the drivers were and was rather stunned to see some of the cheapest junk 6.5" and 1" paper tweeters imaginable! About the only positive thing I could say about them is that they had incredibly light diaphragms based on how much they flexed while having only a single roll paper hinge for a surround. Shades of early RCA etc., table radios, TVs!

The replacements only retailed for $6.25, $2.19 in 2012 and sound about like what one would expect when not hooked up to the TV's electronics, though probably wouldn't be too bad if tube SET driven, so for me this was the day I realized that DSP was the future of consumer speaker design and had to begrudgingly accept that B0$3 had it right after all even if their various implementations don't sound good to me.

Interesting stuff GM. The drivers in my old crt are nothing special to look at either but they produce a reasonable sound, certainly better than any panel I've heard.

I'm currently playing around two Tang Band W3-817 in a castle arrangement, very promising sound, especially when relieved of bass duties. These (and other I'm sure) drivers can be found in some logitech pc sound systems, you could get them on gumtree/craigslist/garage sale very cheap.

Zootalaws will have dsp so he can certainly tune things to his liking.

No, it was obvious, but not what I was looking for. I want to build something repeatable and with known audio specification, so looking in the dump isn't what I want to do.

Of course I can get drivers from old electronic kit, but this is effectively a ver.2.2 of my original design - I have it all working perfectly fine from a software/amp/hardware perspective, now I want to build a 'production' model, that won't be a hack.

And I apologise for my previous, off-hand post. It wasn't my intent to offend you, but I can see how my post would have - being somewhat 'on the spectrum', sometimes my fingers work independently from social niceties. 🙁
