Re: Re: My own dilemma.
you told the right thing: there are so many speaker deisgns here on the net! Some are good, some even better, others are crap, and there are also excellent ones
the problem with "found on a web page" design, it that it's only a design found on a web page, you can't tell how it sound (most of the time, the author will say it sounds excellent). Sometimes you can predict more or less hot it will sound, according to the parts used, but that's all
that's why I'm looking for builder's feedback, IMO it's the only way to kno if they are worth it. Especially if the builder is an experienced audiophile, and has compared to other speakers

Re: Re: Re: My own dilemma.
In the end all this does is give you some more opinions to sort thru. Not many have had the opportunity to compare many projects in like circumstances, and every person has at least slightly different "needs".
It might be safest to go with projects that seem to garner the most "hits" (kits are probably included here), but in many cases this doesn't say anything. An example in the computer world are things like MS software (or AutoCAD) -- they got to where they are because they were recommended by "an expert" who was choosing from a sample with only one member and we end up with very mediocre software at best as being the most popular.
In the end you are still going to have to look at the designs, the feedback, and make your own choice. If you find a project that you feel good about, go for it. I would just recommend that for a 1st project go with something of modest price -- say $200-300 USD.
For a more conventional multi-way my choice would probably be a 2.5 way based on the Vifa P13 & the companion tweeter & the simple cap XO (0.5 speaker on the back). I dn't know if you will find this one already designed, but it is essentially the TLb with a single T and an inductor on the back driver.

Hi Bricolo
This may not make your speaker choice any easier, but you can find more SEAS kits at their website:

enjoy 🙂

Re: Re: Re: Re: My own dilemma.
I also thought about a low budget speaker, since I also want to build a basic amp before trying an aleph. (maybe a IC based, LM1875 seems good)
For a bigger speaker, what do you think about working together on an "optimised thor" like the one you told about? This would give a very nice speaker, and could teach me many things
you're totally rightplanet10 said:

I found this thread via search. It just ended with no further reports. Did anyone ever build the Thor T-Line? I'm interested in a new kit to build this winter.
Thanks,
Jeff
