False and misleading advertising constitutes fraud. Fraud can be classified as a misdemeanor or felony.
False advertising when subjective is often classified as Puffery.
Puffery is difficult to prosecute as it often deals with unquantifiable items such as:
The world's best speaker wire.
Wherein 'best' has no absolute definition.
Matt, you are asking such an obvious question, I am surprised. Why is there a crusade? It's because you can't stop the puffery and it drives many persons to frustration and anger and they feel the need to vent. Who could blame them?
There were 3 Deli's on the same street in San Francisco.
The first had a sign saying it was the best Deli in the World.
The second had a sign saying it was the best Deli in San Francisco.
The third had a sign that said "This is the best Deli on this street".

The third should have two signs, first reading "This is the best AND NEWEST Deli on this street" and the second "Caution: Wet Paint."
Many different things can drive people to frustration and anger. Over-venting by some persons can drive other persons to frustration and anger. Who can blame those persons?

Best of luck with that Pano, this is a wire thread after all. They will start to get nasty with opinions and we will close the thread as we have in every other one of its ilk. I wish it were different, I really do, alas.
If one were to take the time and go through all 150+ pages of this thread, deleting all the posts that didn't contain anything useful, you have to wonder how many posts would be left.
Sadly, that would be typical of all discussions of aspects of audio where much snake oil salesmanship is to be found and precious little in the way of hard facts or science based data.
I still have difficulty seeing beyond the basic fact that copper is copper and all the fancy wrapping and advertising you place around it means nothing to the electro-acoustic properties of that copper.
If I am wrong, please present some emperical, scientific data.
