Speaker Build Idea - F'AST Build

For one, the Orangutan I believe used a 10" woofer, but bigger is better right? well, not if driver separation is taken into consideration with an average crossover frequency. Just depends how much you care about that. I'm actually currently working on a fun budget build using a 12" pa style woofer and squat but wide horn that will end up with a crossover acoustically around the 2khz region. Not perfect but certainly not the end of the world.

The dimensions of the vented cabinet of the Orangutan equate out to ~2.6cf without any bracing or driver volume factored in. The factory specs of the PA310-8 say that is too large and won'r dig deep enough, but it looks like ampslab took their own measurements and show that cabinet might be about perfect for ~45hz f3 Dayton PA310-8 12″ Pro Woofer – AmpsLab Just remember you lose around 6db for baffle step in order to keep things flat. Though the rear ported design can get back a bit of that by placing it a little closer to the back wall. So up to you if you would go a little lighter on the BSC.

That specific tweeter might be an issue for you unless you plan to build 520 pairs of speakers. AKA only large quantity orders on that one from PE. Maybe look into the Goldwood GT250 instead. It has the typical sloped response of a horn tweeter though which may be corrected in the crossover design.

IMO there is an infinite amount of room between awful and perfect. Do what makes you happy.
