Speaker broken using Sure TPA3118

EDIT : may be not serious damage. see my post #6

Hello,

I have project to build synthesizer with :
Seeeduino Music Shield using VS1053 MIDI feature (see schematic).
Sure TPA3118 4 ohm mono version
Visaton FR 13 WP 4 ohm Speaker
power supply is from 12V battery 7AH

I mounted the whole with arduino board. Problem is after a while the speaker give no sound and become broken. This happens two times with new speaker.

I see description of the jack audio output of the Seeeduino Music Shield : "Headsets interface: It can drive 16 ohm or 32 Ohm earphone". I don't know if it could be the problem, I have limited knowledges in audio circuits.

I would be happy if you could give me some help. Thanks in advance for your answers.

With best regards,
Vincent

I am confused because I cannot reproduce the failed speaker testing.

I was sure the first one did not respond well, tested on two kind of system with resulting no sound. However, now the speaker seems ok (very strange !)

It was not driven hard. I will continue use them and be back if I have more precise element.

I am reassured to heard that line input is OK. I just need to amplify the line level.

The Visaton FR13WP are relatively rugged. I don't think they are at fault, especally because the bridged TPA3116 delivers only 15W at 12V.

On many class D amplifiers the amp goes silent if the input level is too high, the comparator stays at '1' for a while. I think you ran it over expecting more output.
