SPDIF to analog converter

This is what I bought recently to connect from Tv optical out to a 2.1 speaker:
Absolutely nothing on the chip.
Works satisfactory.

I bought the plastic white version a while ago, figuring it would be perfectly adequate to feed an Audioscope 2813 (no actual music reproduction).
To my surprise it turned out it was not adequate at all, as the frequency response was obviously far from flat! I did not even bother to measure it precisely: a simple listening test with headphones revealed it was seriously lacking LF content.
 
I don't know this DAC, but I do know ADCs that look very similar. Those actually have a rather good Cirrus Logic chip inside, but the application circuit is complete crap: no input buffer, no anti-alias filter, coupling capacitors that look like ceramic class 2 caps. You could make a decent ADC out of those by adding the things the manufacturer economized away.
